Re: Evolution

You’ve hit the nail on the head there I think. The problem is partly with the sound-bite nature of t.v debate i.e you’ve got to chop a half-hour interview down to 30 seconds - and it’s not you editing the material, coupled with the fact that programme makers’ priorities tend to veer towards ratings rather than information(and I would say sensationalism - cos they’re in a competitive arena!). I mean people do degrees for 3 YEARS and write thesis’ on tiny sub-topics of a major subject, maths, geology etc, so how can you cram the meaning of life - or the question: Does God exist into a small series of t.v ’shows’ - which is what they really are. There should really be a show entitled: ‘Does Richard Dawkins Exist’, hosted by Adrian - cos that’s the only way you’d get ‘redress’.

However, God has dealt with much bigger fish; Nebudcadnezzer, Paul etc and we have all experienced for ourselves who God is and what He has done. There were many who demanded a sign from Jesus and missed it when it came(I will rebuild this temple in 3 days..).

You’re right also to say that ‘Evolutionism’ should be treated as a religion in its own right - I mean you need to have FAITH to go along with it! So, the world is a gazzillion years old(don’t have a problem with that), animals/species have evolved for donkeys years(don’t have a problem with THAT) but if that’s the case where ARE the fossils to prove it? I mean they aren’t there - and they’ve been digging around the GLOBE for over a hundred years. So where are they? The proof of species change, the half bird and half dinosaour etc, I mean there must be MILLIONS of them mustn’t there? Er, no. Unless you count ‘Archioptrix’ which was discredited but still given validation on some web-sites. I mean there aren’t ANY, otherwise it would be front page news everywhere. How many species are there - there’s a lot and they all evolved from ancestors who died and left a fossil - ok mybe a lot were eaten by scavengers or abducted by aliens or something, but there were tons of them so th!
ey must
be everywhere!! Er, apparently not - scientists are still looking for a missing link between apes and humans- good luck guys!

So we’re asked to take a step of faith and believe the postulations of scientists until they can come up with the PROOF.

I’m quite interested in this stuff as you know and there’s a reference to a ‘dinosaur’ in the bible - where exactly eludes me, will have to look it up. But the scripture describes a mighty animal swinging its tail like a cedar tree - sound like a diplodocus to you? This is interesting cos dinosaurs ‘died out’ 65 million years ago and there is NO way humans would have ever had contact with them. Which is amazing considering the amount of folk-law surrounding ‘dragons’ there is in various cultures around the world. I saw a photo of a thousand year old Balian temple with a diplodocus carved into its side and in another, a cave painting depicting dinosaurs. Not to mention the most memorable one for me - the fossilised river-bed in Texas with a dinosaur footprint in it AND that of the human hunting it!! But we never hear this stuff - I mean you just NEVER hear it in the media - what are they frightened of? I thought scientists were supposed to be intellectually honest - ish.

But this is a side issue.

I suppose the question is: What’s the real agenda here? What can we DO if there is no God? No moral mazes and no stuffy, antiquated notions of serving outmoded concepts like love and humility and putting others first etc; let alone the preposterous idea that having a belief or a faith in some kind of ‘deity’ could actually be beneficial, rather than treated as tantamount to mental abuse and something that should be outlawed as soon as possible! These things are seen as outdated and needless resraints. But without them where would these guys steer us? What would the world be like if we abandoned them? A new Rome? Well maybe the roads would be better…

These guys ‘demand’ answers from God but Jesus said that God was pleased to reveal them to the ‘little children’. Nuff said.

Tony Mayer.
