Each child has a story to tell of how they have ended up in the home and it is hard not to cry when you are told. The home caters for boys and girls in separate dormitories. It has land too, it’s used for growing crops, raising cattle and supplying lots of outdoor space to play. A few years back a British organization paid money to have a borehole installed on the grounds of the orphanage. The borehole now serves the whole community. Before villagers would travel up to 7 kilometers to get water.

Managed by Sammy and Millie Nawali, the children at Sure 24 affectionately call them ‘mum & dad’ however the children’s home is not the only string to their bow. They also run a 250 pupil strong day school. Taking children through preschool, primary, and junior education. Students are doing so well that they are passing the national tests with results offering them spaces in high school. Now remember these children are either from extremely poor backgrounds or from the orphanage, so, many were expected not to amount to much so these results give Sammy & Millie real assurance that they are making a difference.

Many people have visited and imputed into Sure 24, donations, practical support, staff and resources have all contributed to what you can see there today. However Millie explains that they continue to face struggles on a daily basis. Healthcare is a major issue as it is not free in Kenya to get medicine and basic health needs can be missed. Also for children to go onto high school fees are required and that’s often when education has to stop.

However they continue to be faithful, relying on God to provide. They are enterprising and have used all means at their disposal to make money to make ends meet. Sammy showed us his latest venture and that was to filter and bottle the water from the borehole.

They welcome visitors and volunteers, always smiling and grateful for whatever and whoever comes their way. It was a privilege for me to see with my own eyes the difference Sammy & Millie are making. Their selfless commitment and passion for making a difference and changing lives was beyond inspiring and I would urge anyone who can, to support them.

It is also a tale about an emotional journey; looking at the injustices of poverty in Great Britain and overseas with specific references to South London, Romania, Sri Lanka and particularly Kenya. Plus, and perhaps most significantly, it is a story about a spiritual journey – each time the main character falls asleep in a Bed and Breakfast after walking a twenty mile section of the Thames he dreams of the claustrophobic prison of the tube train mostly representing ‘hell’ and the release of leaving the tube train and bouncing through the barriers at the tube station representing ‘heaven’ – except one horrific yet spellbinding chapter as Otton weaves the narrative to a conclusion when describing the horrific events unfolding to a fourteen year old abducted at Convent Garden.

You may be committed, you may be on the edge, you may have Jesus tattooed on your forhead, or you might just be spiritually 100% sorted? But what it comes down too in this troubled time of wars, cuts, abuse and depression that your all needed!
I / We / Jesus / Mohammed next door need you! So then the question you probably ask or some of you might be is ‘What do you need me to do?’

There is a problem of burnouts, life and whats going on at the moment!
There is the problems of dissilussionment, offence and expentancy!
But all Im asking is that you forgive me / us / Jesus / Mohammed next door and we can move on and do our best for something that we all believe in! What do we believe in?

I believe that we could create a community here that thinks differently to the masses, not just to be different but to undertstand for ourselves how we can discover more of True Jesus for ourselves with each other.

What do I need from you? I need you to think God! I need you to think yeah its crap BUT!

Im not asking for you to do coffee mornings, sell your furniture and build an orphanage. I just ask for you give time to think and pause for a moment!

People need your prayer / time / gifts / visions / money and I know there are times that you cannot give it but please keep thinking when you can.

The reason I am writing this is that today I’m thinking we got do a communion prayer session on Saturday! Part of me thinks who’s coming? Part of me thinks should we change it all? Part of me as I write this email me wants to run away as fars as I can so I don’t have to deal with the day to day of whats giong on at the moment! I’m nervous of the responsibilities of being me. I worry of church finances (even though God knows what He is doing). I worry of personal finances (even though God know what He is doing). I worry what people are saying about other people (even though Gog knows what they are saying). I’m worried about the state of the world, morality, nhs, and above all apathy! (even though… you get the picture).

After all this I will push through and will organise this communion on Saturday as for this week – That is right! It is important to push through and fight! I’m going away for half term with the fam which couldn’t come sooner but I want to encourage you all that you can fight through and get there! Sometimes you wont be able to push through and people will judge (cos people are people) but God has a plan! Amen

Should probably have not wrote all this, just thought should be honest! Have a look at my poem I wrote! Probaby a lot more basic!

Gonna deliver wine to the Tracey houshold and Russels tonight and if we havent done you then holler this way! Please keep emailing me and contributing to what you wanna do / see in the Rainbow community! Wether its like Jana’s book club hes doing, girls prayer or homeless worship sessions! Wanna build even when it so bloody hard too!

Love God! Love One another!

When we look around and we see hedonism, poverty, selfishness, greed & utter madness; heroes are a lifeline! Every generation cries out for people to look up to and take inspiration from and recently it has been female kids and teenagers. We had food blogger Martha Payne, Paralympic sensation Ellie Simmonds and now the latest inspiration (which is making my goosbumps go just thinking of her) Malala Yousafzai. The latter being just shot (not dead) in Pakistan, for her heroic education for women campaigns, by mad Taliban fundamentals. Were as people are desperate for these inspirational role models and when they are affected by such hate we need to stand tall and pray. I ask you with your kids or your friends too say a prayer for Malala. She is being transported to the UK as I write this email and is in a critical condition.
Saturday 27th October @ 4pm @ Scout Hall, Wolves Lane, N22 5JD This month we will be doing a mish mash of prayer, stories, songs and sharing around the round (well it will probably be square) table! Been a while since we have had an open mic and felt with the communion bottles going around (see below) that it would be good time to break bread together at the end of the month. Also be a good time to send out prayer on the issues we are facing over the winter (homeless / usa elections / war / price cuts / etc) and focus on what a cool friend Jesus is. Come, break bread, pray and chill!
